Managing Creative People ... Unleashing the Magic Within.. with Sindy Kaur

We had a couple of events in the East Midlands since my last entry. This is information about the Leicester event. In Leicester our last event was on Thursday 21 May 09, 3 days before my daughters birthday.

Our guest speaker was Sindy Kaur, a Personal Development Coach with roots based firmly in the corporate world. Sindy is a Chartered Marketeer and spent more than 10 years at the headquaters of multinational blue chip company Boots, in various marketing roles.

Sindy delivered a thought provoking and inspiring talk on our beliefs around identifying creative people and understanding how to manage the creatives among us.

Here is some of the feedback from those who attended the talk.

  • Very inspirational - thought process kicking in
  • Speaker was excellent, great networking; time to learn and reflect on me and my development
  • Inspiring story

I found the talk very useful personally. My husband Mike also attended this event and was quite surprised to find after using the check list offered by Sindy to indentify a creative person, found that he could identify himself as a creative person. I would agreed that he is. Sometime we have a different idea about what a 'creative' person is like and how they like to work. A very useful and interesting session. For me, it was a good reminder or re-confirmation of my own skills. Thanks Sindy.

We have asked Sindy to consider coming back in the future to share from her wealth of knowledge, skills and experience.

The Venue:

The African Caribbean Centre is a good venue for meetings and even some larger events. Traditionally the centre has been used for community activities, but is now looking to expand its services to a wider range of users, including business and other activities.

Marketing Your Business Through Your Voice

Our March event was held on Monday 9 at the Quarter Restaurant & Bar. Our speaker was Priscilla Morris, who is an excellent voice coach and Founder of Loud & Clear.

It was a very lively, informative and beautifully crafted evening. Priscilla is a very skilled facilitator and got us all actively involved in looking at how we present ourselves using our voices. Some delegates also had the opportunity to plan and present a short presentation, after gaining some insight from Priscilla.

It is a very interested fact that many of us take for granted this well used, but misunderstood talent we all have – our voice. Priscilla shared with us, some of the things we can best do, in terms of preparation, and how, with even a very slight change tone or intonation, we can completely and effectively make positive improvements to how we are perceived and our message received.

In previous years many more people used to retrain their voices in order to improve and increase their success in business and personal life. Many famous individuals such as Margaret Thatcher realised the importance and the power of the voice.

Whether we’ve taken the time to think about it or not, the quality of and how we use our voice can have a positive or negative impact on the people around us, particularly in relation to what people think and how they receive our message.

We can take steps to learn about this natural tool and to control how we use it. Through Priscilla’s generosity we were privileged to experience a first class taster session, with many of us wanting more.

Priscilla is a performer of class. She uses her experience and back ground in acting and drama to bring this topic alive.

Janice Gordan, owner of the Joint Owner and Director of the Quarter, welcomed delegates.

Welcome to our WIM Blog

As Chair of WIM East Midlands, I would like to offer you a warm welcome to our blog.
At some point I will give you a potted overview of the WIM history, but for now I will concentrate on what we do.
The introduction does provide some information our purpose and focus, so I guess I have already done this. However, on a monthly by month basis this blog will give you an insight into the events and activities we have been involved with. We will also be working on a web site and we'll no doubt let you have that information when it is ready.
Please feel free to comment and to get involved. It will be great to hear from you and maybe see you at our events.

Keep watching - keep listening and commenting.
